Ipswich - FPL Southern Conference Champions - Pitch invasion and all !!

Sheffield take the North, literally by Storm

Ipswich Wolves clinched the FPL Serie A Southen conference with a stylish 2-1 comeback over Kickers. Much to the delight of the travelling support, Ipswich proved themselves worthy winners. The match was a cracker from start to finish. Set aside the fact that Kickers needed a big won to overturn Ipswich's 3 point lead and superior goal difference, sheer pride of honours was very much at stake. It was Wolves night, but Kickers deserve credit too for an enthralling game and finish to the season.

---------- Fiesta Time for Wolves ------ Some fans are on the pitch... They think its all over...... IT IS NOW !!!!

In the north, it was Sheffield who came through as victors, clinching the conference title on the last game of the season with a superb win over early leaders Birmingham. Middlesbrough, leaders before KO, could only look on and hope that Birmingham could do them the favour of at least a draw with Sheffield. But it was Sheffield's day, and they now look to the play-off with Ipswich.

Lithuanian pros win the FPL Invitational Cup.... Ipswich do us proud
(Sat 1t7th March, at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre)

Having drawn 2-2 in the group stages, the stage was all set for the perfect show-down final when Ipswich took on Nautara. The visitors prevailed to lift the cup, but it was neck and neck all the way. Ipswich beat Baltic in penalties in the semis, having come back from a 2-0 deficit. The former pro experience of some of the Ipswich boys helped them stay close to a very well organised Nautara, whose movement and cohesion at times showed the clear difference you'd expect from a team that competes at a higher level. No shame at all for Ipswich, Baltic and Birmingham, who all had a run at some stage against the pros.

Nautara and Ipswich qualified from Group A. Baltic and Birmingham from Group B. Kickers beat Helvecia comfortably to take 5tyh place spot. Nautara beat Birmingham in the other semi-final to tee up what was a cracking final.

Ipswich strike a blow to league leaders Kickers....
In what was probably the best game of the season so far, Ipswich hit a massive blow to league leaders Kickers
taking al 3 points in a game that was never short of action and atmosphere. With quite a noisy crowd in the stands for this one, it took until the 30th minute before we saw a goal. When the deadlock was finally broken, we say 3 goals in as many minutes, with Ipswich benefiting from a keeper error to take the 2-1 lead that clinched it for them. Check the league page for more details and match report.

Soccabox Crawley teams with teh FPL to launch Futsal in Sussex
Already home to 100+ 5-aside teams, Soccabox Crawley is about to make a strategic shift to futsal, in partnership with the Futsal Premier League.

Soccabox will be the first indoor venue in Sussex to really get into futsal, and the FPL team will be launching a Serie B championship, with FA Futsal Cup entry and access to Europe through the UEFA Futsal Cup. This is an exciting milestone for futsal in Sussex, and both the FPL and Soccabox management are eager to get the ball rolling. All 100 teams will have the opportunity to play in this seasons Serie B and FA Cup qualifier. This will be run as an introductory springs eason, with a full 2007 season following on from there.

Fair City Santos and Doncaster bow out proud in UEFA prelim
Fair City Santos will perhaps look back with some regret at a lost opportunity as they picked up just one point from there
three games in the UEFA Futsal Cup prelim. In their first game against the Armenian Adana Yereven, they looked a little overawed in the early stages and maybe showed a little too much respect to the favourites. They lost 5-3 in the end, but could have done better.

They will kick themselves for what then happened in the second game against Roubaix of France. Things was a hum dinger of a game. France led all the way, with the Scots fighting back level from 3-0, 5-3 and 7-7. The Scots finally got in front at 8-7, with 4 minutes left to play and the French in foul trouble. Instead of staying calm, and controlling the game, they allowed the frenzied pace and emotion of the French to dominate, completely lost concentration and ultimately let in 5 silly goals for no return, to lose 12-8 in the end.

Last game up saw them play for pride, and they put a great performance against Mad Max of Finland, who had drawn 3-3 with Yerevan and beaten Roubaix 3-1. It finished 3-3, with the Fins snatching a late equalizer to snatch a point from the game. Yerevan go through. Santos will be back for more next year.

England's representative's Doncaster lost 7-2, 10-2 and 5-4 in there appearance in the Cup. Again, signs of nerves and inexperience at this level perhaps contributing to their results. Doncaster allowed the first game to get away too early, going down 5-0 at the break to Encamp. An improved second half performance wasn't enough and it finished 7-2. Their second game was a heavy 10-2 defeat to Toligma Chisinau, who went on to qualify. Doncaster did manage a final performance worthy of what we know they can do, and were unfortunate not to take anything away from their final game against Uni Futsal Team Bulle, losing 5-4 in the end.
