FPL KidStart makes its mark with Kent girls Kent College gets Football Crazy for the 'Mini Beautiful Game'
Sep 2004. Tunbridge Wells, Kent 18 girls turned out for the first session, with parents watching from the gallery and cheering them on. Coach Andy was most impressed at the focus, effort and fun with the girls. Ann Lawson, Head of the Preparatory Scholl is introducing the soccer to the school as part of a broader effort to increase the amount of sport at the school. 'The low-bounce ball and non-contact nature of Futsal makes this a fantastic way for the girls to learn football' says Ann. 'We were amazed at the cheer that went through the room when we announced it at Assembly.' she added with a smile. Not surprisingly, the parents were pretty excited.. especially the dads. One dad was overheard saying he just never thought he'd see the day his daughter was actually so thrilled to be kicking a ball around. Another soccer mum added.. 'being indoor is even better as this will run all through the winter.'
The FPL is working with County FA and local councils to promote Futsal as the perfect way to add more football into schools. It's fast, fun, indoor, and the ball really makes a difference in skills and confidence building. Schools or councils interested in Futsal and how it can bring a real spark and innovative approach to teaching football as well as introduce more competition should contact the FPL to find out more about KidStart.
