EUROPE BECKONS FOR SCOTLAND'S FUTSAL CHAMPIONS Monday, 21 Aug 2006

A Perth team will be Scotland's first ever representatives in the UEFA Futsal Cup, after winning the Tennent's Futsal Premier League at the weekend. Fair City Santos will host the preliminary round of the UEFA Futsal Cup, to be held in Perth in September.

On Sunday 20 August the final round of games of the Tennent’s Futsal Premier League took place at Bells Sports Centre, Perth. Perth’s Fair City Santos won their final league game 10 – 6 to secure the league title on goal difference and will now represent Scotland in September’s UEFA Qualifier.

This was the first National Futsal Premier League competed for in Scotland and went down to the last day of games to decide a winner. Fair City Santos were pushed all the way by Glasgow’s Penman’s who were last year's Tennent’s Lager 2005 Total Futsal Cup champions.

Fair City Santos will now go forward to represent Scotland in the preliminary round of the UEFA Futsal Cup, also to be held in Perth on 13,14 & 16 September.

The team have just over three weeks to prepare to be the first side to represent Scotland in the UEFA Futsal Cup. They will compete in a four team group qualifier against Roubaix Futsal from France, Adana Yerevan from Armenia and Futsal Mad Max from Finland.

Andrea Galloway, Sponsorship Manager Tennent’s Lager said; “Sunday was an exciting finale to a fantastic league season. I would like to congratulate Fair City Santos on becoming Tennent’s Futsal Premier League Champions 2006 and hopefully they will achieve similar success with the European Qualifier.”

Mark Potter, Player Manager of Fair City Santos said; “I’d like to say how tremendously proud of the players I am and that we are delighted to be Scotland’s first ever representatives at European level. The level of competition in the national league, particularly amongst the top sides was excellent. To come out on top is a great achievement for the club.

"We know we are in for three very tough matches in the UEFA Futsal Cup qualifying tournament, but we will work extremely hard to try to progress further. All of our European opponents have experience of this event before so it’ll be a big challenge, but one which we are looking forward to immensely.”
